🌿 Study Finds Cannabis Consumption Methods May Help Identify Addiction Risk

Researchers at NYU Langone Health found that adults who consume cannabis in multiple forms, such as smoking, vaping, edibles and dabbing, are significantly more likely to use cannabis daily and meet criteria for cannabis use disorder. The study found that about 14% of users consumed cannabis through nearly every available method, and this group showed the highest rates of frequent use and addiction-related symptoms. By comparison, people who primarily used edibles had the lowest rates of daily use and cannabis use disorder. Researchers say clinicians may benefit from asking not just whether patients use cannabis, but how they use it, as consumption patterns could serve as an important indicator of risk. 🧠 Large Study Links Cannabis Use to Earlier Onset of Psychosis

A major meta-analysis of 149 studies involving more than 71,000 people found that cannabis users who develop psychosis experience symptoms an average of 2.5 years earlier than nonusers. The effect appeared to become more pronounced with age, with cannabis users in their 30s developing psychosis more than six years earlier on average than comparable nonusers. Researchers say the findings support concerns that the impact of cannabis may be cumulative over time, rather than being limited to adolescence. However, the study did not prove that cannabis causes psychosis, and the authors noted that additional research is needed to better understand the relationship.

Iowa health officials have filed proposed rules that would allow qualified out-of-state residents to register for the state's medical cannabis program, ending a longstanding residency requirement.
